New Moon News No. 2

Third Twilight film in the pipeline    With the success of Twilight still very fresh, Summit Entertainment has announced that they will be releasing a third series by the name of Eclipse.  The release date for the film has been set as June 30, 2010, and Summit’s expected to make the official announcement this weekend … The director for Eclipse has not been selected as yet. However, it is suggested that Robert Pattinson will be seen in the film as Edward, Kristen Stewart as Bella, and Taylor Lautner as Jacob.”    Well, obviously.

‘Twilight’ exclusive: Chris Weitz will not direct third film, ‘Eclipse’     Chris Weitz will not direct the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, a source close to the production tells EW.com exclusively. Because New Moon, which Weitz is helming, and Eclipse are due to be released so close together (on Nov. 20, 2009, and June 30, 2010, respectively), Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon at the same time that Eclipse will be shooting. That said, the source confirms a report that the movies will not be shot simultaneously or back-to-back; there will be a brief gap between the production of both films.”

‘New Moon’ Secrets Revealed!     The sequel to “Twilight” might be one of the most talked about flicks for 2009, but some of the cast members have yet to see a script!  “New Moon” is scheduled to begin filming this March and OK! Magazine is reporting star Justin Chon hasn’t seen his lines, “I am waiting to get my hands on the script. I am looking forward to getting to work!”  Plus, time is ticking and a number of the roles in the film have yet to be cast!  The anticipated vampire flick is expected in theaters November 20, 2009.”

‘Twilight’ Exclusive: ‘New Moon’ Art And Official Title Revealed!     MTV News has the scoop on the official name and logo for Chris Weitz’s soon-to-film sequel to “Twilight.” Dubbed “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” (although the title treatment leaves off the “’s”) the film’s official title art stays true to the look of the first movie while swapping in an orange tint, a subtle crescent moon, and the release date of 11.20.09.

New Moon logo

Although the look of the new logo will undoubtedly get Twilighter tongues wagging, it’s the five-word official title that is the most prominent variation from Stephenie Meyer’s simple “New Moon.”  With roman numerals now considered taboo in Hollywood, and sequel names like “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” in vogue, it makes sense that Weitz and crew would label the future films as “The Twilight Saga.” At the risk of reading too much into five words, it also seems to imply that “New Moon” will boast a more epic feel than the first movie.”

Hardwicke turns down Twilight Sequel Offer     Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke says she walked away from the payday of a lifetime to direct the sequel New Moon because she didn’t want to make the movie under the deadline and budget constraints that would have been placed on her. That’s one of the key revelations in an interview she did with Entertainment Weekly in which she also discusses the forthcoming Twilight: Director’s Notebook, inspired by the on-set journal she kept while shooting the smash-hit vampire romance.  Hardwicke says in the interview posted on ew.com that she was having dinner in Paris with the film’s young stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, when her cell phone rang. She’d been in negotiations with Summit Entertainment, which released Twilight, about directing part two in Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.  Summit executives called to offer her “more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen,” she said, but they added that she’d have to shoot New Moon under a tight deadline and modest budget.  Hardwicke turned them down.  “I was devastated,” she says now. “I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie – and to Stephenie and the actors. But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances.”  Summit Entertainment had no comment on the report, spokesman Paul Pflug said.”

Robert Pattinson Wants More Time With Fans     Robert Pattinson wants to spend more time with has fans.  The British actor – who became a household name playing vampire Edward Cullen in the recent Twilight movie – says he feels guilty when people wait for hours to meet him and then he has five seconds to sign an autograph.  “You have to rush through everything so much,” he said. “I just feel terrible every single time because people have queued up since 4 o’clock in the morning for five seconds…and that’s it.  “I feel quite bad half the time.”

Robert Pattinson: ‘I Tried to Copy James Dean’     Robert Pattinson says he has the legendary actor James Dean to thank for his new found fame and success … Pattinson, 22, says,  “I tried copying James Dean’s accent just because I’ve always wanted James Dean’s voice.  “I think that is why it has worked. Everyone loves a bit of James Dean.”

Robert Pattinson – The Best Of Times And The Worst Of Times     His newfound mega-celebrity is causing its share of problems.  Robert is afraid of his mail. The Brit actor doesn’t want to go through his fan mail and find something shocking.  “I go through fan mail myself,” Pattinson told ShowbizSpy, “but I think I might get them censored, because I’m always expecting to get the one thing that says, ‘I know where you live and I’m going to kill you!’  “I’m always expecting that to come, but it never seems to arrive. I never get any negative mail, so someone must be censoring them.” … Rob says he’s even afraid of crowds, too.  “I’m just scared of crowds,” he said. “I just think people require things of me whenever there’s a screaming crowd, and I always think I won’t be able to provide what they want, so that’s why I look scared all the time.” … Now he knows his life won’t be nearly as quiet as it used to be. He won’t be able to do the things he once enjoyed before becoming a mega-star.  “I used to love playing live at open mics at bars. You could go nuts and be completely free. It would be a cathartic experience for me.” Pattinson said.”

Robert Pattinson Turns Down Chance To Make Music For “New Moon”     “Twilight” star, Robert Pattinson, recorded some songs for the movie’s soundtrack. In fact, his crooning helped the album steadily move up the U.S. album charts. But this time around, he’s turned down the opportunity to contribute his sultry voice to the upcoming movie sequel soundtrack. Why? Pursuing music professionally was never the actor’s intention and he’d rather keep his music career as a backup plan. The Brit is a talented composer, pianist and guitarist, so music may not be a horrible option if he’s never able to score another role after Edward Cullen. But until his 15 minutes of movie fame are up, he’s stepping aside so rock band Paramore can write the title track to the movie’s soundtrack.

Robert Pattinson’s line problems     Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner better be good at learning lines.  Rumour has it that the New Moon script hasn’t been finalised yet and some roles haven’t been filled either.   Justin Chon (Eric Yorkie in the film) told OK: “I am waiting to get my hands on the script. “I am looking forward to getting to work!”

Robert Pattinson Reveals Pre-Twilight Gym Obsession     “The Brit actor says he trained for up to five hours a day in a bid to get in shape for his breakthrough movie role – and ended up looking like a Victoria Beckham-style lolly pop head.  “I used to go to the gym for about five hours a day, but then I started losing so such weight,” he tells Entertainment Weekly.  “My head started to look really huge in comparison to the rest of my body.  “(Catherine Hardwicke) came up to me and said, ‘What are you doing to yourself?’”  Thankfully Rob took his director’s advice and began to pack the pounds back on, although it wasn’t always easy.  “(To gain weight) I literally stopped exercising,” he reveals.  “Eating a cheeseburger after two-and-a-half months of doing that – it tasted like ambrosia.”

‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson confirmed for Oscars     “HitFix can now exclusively confirm that Robert Pattinson will be presenting an award during this year’s telecast.  The “Twilight” star had long been rumored to appear on Hollywood’s biggest night, but barring any unforeseen last minute conflicts, he’ll be giving the franchise’s legion of fans something to look forward to on Oscar Sunday.   Still unclear is whether Pattinson’s “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart will also appear on the telecast and what award he will specifically present.  And, obviously, speculation will now run rampant on who Pattinson’s date down the red carpet will be.”

Twilight star’s amazing powers of boredom     In the 2008 vampire romance Twilight, Robert Pattinson’s character had the ability to rip people to shreds with his teeth. In real-life, the actor has a much more mundane talent.  Pattinson, 22, told Creme magazine that he managed to shake off one of his many obsessive fans simply by being a bore.  “I had a stalker while filming a movie in Spain,” Pattinson said. “She stood outside of my apartment every day for weeks — all day, every day. I was so bored and lonely that I went out and had dinner with her.”  It was at this point that Pattinson, who’s currently preparing to start shooting the Twilight sequel New Moon, unleashed his powers of boredom on the unsuspecting stalker.  “I just complained about everything in my life and she never came back,” he said. “People get bored of me in, like, two minutes.”

5 Reasons Why New Moon Could be Better Than Twilight

Taylor Lautner Excited About “New Moon”    “With production for New Moon beginning next month, there is no one more excited about the Twilight sequel than 16 year old Taylor Lautner … He told Twist, “The quote I love the most is Jacob’s quote, ‘Does my being half-naked bother you?'”  He continued, “That quote cracks me up! Because you know, that’s when he’s shirtless, not wearing a top – we’ll have to wait to see what he looks like.” Showing off his newly buff body isn’t something that Lautner is used to. He confessed, “It’ll be interesting and weird!”  Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson reprise their respective roles as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in New Moon, and Pattinson is humbled by the opportunity to act in the vampire saga. Pattinson said, “I’m just happy to be a part of this series.””

‘Twilight’s Rachel Lefevre Spills ‘New Moon’ Secrets     Rachel Lefevre is not a big Hollywood star yet. In fact, the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards are her first awards show ever. And she told Access Hollywood’s Dish of Salt, Laura Saltman, that she adheres closely to a piece of advice that she once heard from George Clooney; “Never go to an awards show, unless you’re invited.”  Rachel has heard all of the “New Moon” rumors that we’ve all heard – about Dakota Fanning, AnnaLynne McCord, Vanessa Hudgens and Madonna. And about the Madonna rumor she says, “I’ve heard that one too. And if I saw her, I’d march right up to her and shake her and say, ‘We’re in the same project!'”  As for “High School Musical’s” Vanessa, Rachel says that the cast hardly knows anything about all of “the rumors,” but that she heard Vanessa Hudgens was, “in… then out… and now maybe back in again.”  Rachel is excited for the third installment of “The Twilight Saga” because there’s a huge fight scene for her in it.  Moreover, she says that she just started training for the wire work stunts in “New Moon.”  She also tells Access that she is doing a special new workout training program, only available in Hollywood, called “GST.”  So look for a buffed up Rachel in “New Moon”!””     Vanessa Hudgens might be back in New Moon? Nooooo!

AnnaLynne McCord Not Doing Twilight     New Moon, the sequel to blockbuster Twilight, hasn’t even started filming yet, but already there are shake-ups involving the cast of the film.  AnnaLynne McCord, who was slated to play the receptionist to the Volturi vampires in Rome, Heidi, tells OK! she’s no longer going to be in that role.   “I am so disappointed but it doesn’t look like it is going to happen with my schedule,” she revealed to OK! at the L.A. premiere of Fired Up on Feb. 19.  Fans of the 90210 star might still have some hope, as she adds, “But keep your fingers crossed for me. I hope that it still does!””

Ashley Greene’s Prive Birthday Bash     Ashley recently revealed to press that she’d gladly trade in her character of Alice Cullen in the film to be Robert Pattinson’s role of Edward Cullen.  “Everyone is in love with him! I like James and Victoria a lot too.  Playing the bad guys would be fun because Alice is very sweet, very good and wholesome and whatnot. I think I’d play one of the villain vampires!”

7 Secrets of the Twilight Sequel     There are some nice photos in this one.

My Chemical Romance Go ’80s For ‘Watchmen     Given their former, rather vampirish past, they seem naturals for “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”  “I don’t think so,” Way said. “We’re very choosy. … There were a few films that we didn’t do the song for because it didn’t fit. I guess a lot of people would say that a vampire movie would fit, but I would disagree with that these days. Even since Black Parade, I would kind of disagree with that. I don’t know if we’d be interested in that.””

Jackson Rathbone loves his Twilight look     Jackson Rathbone loved transforming into Jasper Hale.  When Teen mag asked Jackson if he enjoyed changing his appearance to play Jasper he replied: “I really enjoyed it.  “I was always a character actor when I was in theatre. I kind of find that it helps the audience, especially with Jasper.  “I mean I’m not actually blonde so I had to bleach my hair blonde. I’m fairly pale. I’m more of an indoor sports kind of guy.  “I’m a musician so I spent most of my time awake at night and in the recording studio tucked away from the sun.  “But I really do love to change appearances for a lot of the characters I play.”  We loved Jackson in Twilight and can’t wait to see him in New Moon.”

Twilight or Twilight Zone?     Twilight star Kristen Stewart’s 15 minutes of fame might have already passed (until the next movie in the series, at least), but, oh, what a memorable 15 minutes they were. Less than a week before she would be photographed smoking drugs on her Los Angeles doorstep, Stewart dropped by Letterman’s show for one last plug of her vegetarian-vampire flick. The result is equal parts hilarity and horror. Take this exchange, for example:

Stewart: We have this big European press tour to do. I’m not sure if we’re going to end up in London or Berlin, but wherever we end up, I’m going to drive to Russia. I’m very, very excited about that.
Letterman [deadpan:] Let’s hope for Berlin.
[Audience laughs, understands geography.]
Stewart [oblivious to joke:] I’m actually hoping for Russia. Very much so, yeah.
Letterman: Um.

Eek, is more like it.”     Oh dear!  Poor Kristen.

Twilight’ Invades The 2009 Toy Fair, And We Were There!

The Jonas Brothers To ‘Twilight’ Filmmakers: Put Us On The ‘New Moon’ Soundtrack!     In the annals of teen girl fandom, could there be any more of a perfect storm than “Twilight” and the Jonas Brothers coming together? I think not, which is why we’re happy to report that the JoBros would totally be down with contributing on the soundtrack for “New Moon,” provided they’re asked.”     Let’s all pray that they don’t get asked!

Sneak a Peek at Catherine Hardwicke’s New Book – and RPattz’s New Beard

Stephenie Meyer’s star not dimmed     Despite the huge success of the vampire romance epic Twilight based on her series by all accounts Stephenie Meyer isn’t having an easy time with her new celebrity. First there was trouble in August when an unedited partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet without Meyer’s permission and became viral faster than a vampire flees the sunrise.  Initially, the author used her own website to complain about the violation of her trust and to state there were no plans to continue with the book.  Then in June after desperate fans wrote to wheedle Meyer into trying again a note was added assuring Twilight saga devotees she’d make the novel’s completion her next project.  Then at the beginning of February horror novelist Stephen King made a comment about Meyer that sent her fans into a white hot screaming snit.  In an interview with US Weekend King mentioned that even through her books are popular “she’s not very good.”  While Meyer hasn’t fired back her devoted readers have crowded forums and chats writing their hearts out in the author’s defense.  Her current career fortune certainly seems to prove the old adage that all publicity is good publicity.  Meyer’s first book written for adults is now in the top five on the New York Bestsellers List for Hardcover Fiction.”

Hilary Duff ‘Badly’ Wants to be in New Moon     On the heels of New Moon news surrounding AnnaLynne McCord and Dakota Fanning, reports are surfacing that singer, actress, popster Hilary Duff was overheard during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City expressing her interest to actor Peter Facinelli about playing a vampire in the upcoming Stephenie Meyer based Twilight sequel. According to the website Hollyscoop, which apparently got the news from someone at the fashion event, Hilary Duff (aka Lizzie McGuire) was behind the scenes at Benz Fashion Week, talking Twilight smack with Facinelli and how “badly” she wants to be in New Moon.  The latest New Moon news centers around comments made by 21-year old Duff in which the Hollyscoop insider stated, “Hilary told Peter how bad she wants to be in the next Twilight movie.”  So, let’s take a closer look for a second before we get Duff-nutty on the latest New Moon buzz.  1. Talking to a Twilight actor and expressing interest in being in New Moon doesn’t mean Hilary Duff is “in talks” to be in the movie. And if Duff is, well, so be it. Good for her.  2. If you did want to be in a movie and no one was looking at you, wouldn’t it be good to kick-start buzz so someone notices?  3. Hilary Duff may indeed want a role in New Moon (what young actress doesn’t?) but does New Moon want Hilary Duff?  And …  4. Since we’re hearing more and more rumors by the day about various actresses circling New Moon, at what point will Kristen Stewart simply become an extra?”     I really doubt that Hilary Duff will get a part, but what I want to know is what Peter Facinelli thought when Hilary told him she wanted to be in it?

Would-be vampires and vampire fodder flock to Vancouver with Twilight’s New Moon in their eyes     Casting agents for the Twilight sequel New Moon interviewed almost 300 young first nations actors in Vancouver last week and gave 65 a chance to return to audition. Many more were seen in Kelowna and Victoria.  Clearly the prospect of rubbing shoulders with Twilight heartthrob characters Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Jacob Swan (Taylor Lautner) and Jane Volturi (possibly Dakota Fanning) was a draw.  Billed as an open casting call for an unnamed production, the worst kept secret in Hollywood North drew far more applicants than could be seen, leaving some who had travelled long distances (Ontario, Florida, California) disappointed.  Thos who lined up at 5 a.m. definitely got the drop on those who showed up at 9 a.m.  The doors opened a half hour early at 8:30 as casting agents tried to deal with the gathered mob. Interviews went well past the 12 noon cut-off, before the late-comers were shooed away.  On offer are speaking roles for male and female aboriginal actors between the ages of 15 and 25. Shooting begins the Vancouver area March 23 under the direction of local executive producers Mark Morgan, Karen Rosenfelt and Marty Bowen on behalf of Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment.  Some scenes will also be shot on location in Tuscany, at the ancient city of Volterra in May. Volterra is the home of the Volturi vampire clan that features prominently in the storyline of New Moon.”

Madonna Will Be Involved in ‘Twilight’ Sequel     “Fans of the “Twilight” vampire film have had plenty of rumors coming their way regarding the much-hyped sequel for it, “New Moon.” They can now add another such report to the ever increasing pile, as rumor in the industry has it that Madonna will also be involved in the production in a double capacity, as both singer and actress.  The hearsay was ignited when Ryan Seacrest reportedly told E! that Guy Oseary, Madonna’s manager, was also executive producer for “New Moon.” At the same time, Seacrest also hinted that Oseary was doing all he could and pulling all strings to get the singer on board the sequel. Madonna, on her part, is said to be equally thrilled about the prospect, hoping she will get both to work on the soundtrack and act in the film, as Seacrest teases.  Calls for comment with Madonna were not immediately taken. However, industry insiders are saying, knowing Madonna’s obstinacy in proving herself as a real actress, it’s very likely that there is some truth in the report, even if she’ll only get a minor part or just a few seconds of onscreen time. If this fails, it is further being added, getting just one of her tracks on the soundtrack of “New Moon” would still qualify as an impressive feat, since the score for “Twilight,” the first film in what will prove to be a successful franchise, performed unexpectedly well in both national and international charts.     Noooooo!
